1/22/2010  NOTED GLASS ARTIST VISITS NEWARK

Flo Perkins, well known glass artist from Sante Fe, NM, will visit the GlassRoots Studio, Newark, on Friday, January 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. Perkins will work with youth involved in the glassmaking curriculum provided to Newark area young people and demonstrate her craft.

9/9/2009  iGlass IPHONE App released!

iGlass is a glassblowing simulation that allows the user to manipulate molten glass on the end of a pipe. The user can push or pull the glass, spin the pipe around, pinch to shrink/expand it, and iPhone users can blow into the microphone to expand it as well. When the creation is complete, there is an annealing oven that renders the work as glass. The glass can be moved, rotated and scaled, and snapshots of the glass can be saved to Pictures.

6/15/2009  Noted African Beadmaker visits GlassRoots

Nomoda “Cedi” Djaba, wellknown Ghanaian glass bead artist, will visit the GlassRoots Studio, Newark, on Monday and Tuesday, June 15 and 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Cedi will demonstrate Ghanaian beadmaking techniques to Newark youth involved in the glassmaking curriculum provided to Newark area young people already familiar with Venetian glass beadmaking skills.
